The live streaming of the event will be broadcast on www.abruzzolive.tv and LAQTV (channel 12 of digitale terrestre system).

Practical information for visitors:

The event is held every year on May 1.

  • Please consult the following Facebook pages for updates:

Pro Loco di Cocullo

Cocullo, Festa di San Domenico Abate, 1° Maggio

  • The Cocullo Pro Loco association will have a stand in the main square. There you will find all the information and the only official mementos and publications supplied by the association in relation to the event.

  • Authorized snake handlers will carry an identification card and will be on hand from the start of the festivities. They are unpaid volunteers. You can, if you like, make a donation to them or to the Pro Loco association. However, please let organizers or law enforcement officers know if anyone demands money from you in return for having your picture taken with snakes.

  • The event will take place even in bad weather, but the start of the procession may be delayed until the weather improves. If conditions are extreme, the duration of the procession may be shortened.

  • Visitors are advised to arrive early in the morning (between 8 and 8:30) to avoid traffic and other inconveniences.

  • Every year, Trenitalia puts on additional trains and stops for Cocullo, and the schedule can be consulted on its website. The railway station is located 800 metres from the main square.

  • The motorway toll booth is always open, but there can be long lineups of cars from mid-morning. There are alternative routes from Pescina (coming from Rome) and from Sulmona (coming from Pescara). The telephone number for the toll booth at the Cocullo exit is 0864 49148.

  • Parking attendants will direct you to designated parking areas (unsupervised) or to parking spaces along the provincial road.

  • A shuttle service will be available on both roads leading to the town. Passengers will be dropped off one kilometre from the main square, since the last stretch of road is closed to traffic.

  • An area has been set aside just outside the town for camping and for RVs. (Contact information is provided elsewhere on this site.) If the area is full, you will need to park in the normal parking areas, making sure not to obstruct traffic.

  • Food is available at various locations. On the main square, there is a bar/grocery store (Dun’it: 3791607634/3291176237); in Casale, there is a bar/grocery store (0864 49181) and two restaurants (La Piccola Corte: 3381317848, and BioAgriturismo Sofia: 3472723967). Food can also be purchased from the vendors that line the road, and can be eaten in the vicinity.

  • If the turnout is very heavy, there may be temporary failures in cell phone service (voice and data).

  • We are not aware of any trips or tours organized by agencies or other communities.
